The Toronto Juniors are absorbing the teaching of T.O. greats Monichrome, Brim Stone and Lucid Lou like little rolling sponges, and it won’t be long now till we can see them in action. The group of 15 or so deeply dedicated young woman have been training now for about four months, and by looking at them scrimmage recently I will say; they look ready to bout.

They all seem to know the basics and a good handful are leaning and honing strategy, and the delicate low contact art of “The Lean”. Most impressive I think, is the discipline and hunger to learn this sport at such a young age, demonstrated by these girls at every practice. They all have different reasons for wanting to be involved (as we’ll learn in future segments) but all bring with them a good attitude and a drive that is rarely seen in youth sports.
TJRD is still signing up skaters and actively looking for boys to learn the admirable art of refereeing along side the girls every Sunday afternoon 2-4pm at The Hanger where ToRD holds service. As well, parents are encouraged to get involved with the “scene” as much as they see fit, to the end, you may yourself end up with a derby name of yourself if you’re not careful!
Insurance is fifty dollars per year, same as mom would be and league dues are thirty per month. If your child is looking for a place to burn off weekend energy before Monday morning; this is most certainly a great place to do that, and much more.
