It may have been snowing outside on Saturday night, but inside Central City Arena in Surrey, it was a roller derby inferno for Vancouver roller derby fans, with the Terminal City RollerGirls’ All-Stars torching Edmonton’s E-Ville Dead by a landslide win, 239-48.

The bout got off to a frenetic start, with huge shots being dished out by both teams. The score was close for the first handful of jams, until E-Ville started piling on penalties. The TCRG All-Stars capitalized on their opponents’ misfortune with some great jamming by Trixi Trippin’ Chix, Amazombie, risquée biznatch and Tiki TimeBomb, scoring 51 points in 5 jams, taking the score to 64-15 by the middle of the first half.

E-Ville Dead was clearly frustrated by the penalties being called on their team, but nothing seemed to be going their way, as they tried to sneakily pass the star a couple times, and even hide the star on the initial pass, only be denied by TCRG’s blockers.

Meanwhile, the All-Stars’ star-pass had the opposite effect. 8-Mean Wheeler took the star from Tiki in the second half, dodged three potentially crushing-hits, and scored 19 points -- setting the crowd on fire in the process.

Despite the blowout, E-Ville didn’t back down, and kept swinging the entire game, delivering speedy action and crushing hits, giving the crowd a show -- especially the fans sitting in Suicide Row, who got to see E-Ville’s human wrecking-ball Dee Vicious in action and Tron’s epic jump over a downed player at breakneck speed.

Ultimately, E-Ville’s big hits weren’t matched to the All-Stars defensive strategy and agility, as they cruised to victory in front of the home crowd. But the win did come at a cost for TCRG, who lost Tight Lacey to a knee injury in the second half, and then Rollergirl towards the end of the bout when she took a skate to the helmet.
